Inspiration
In Senegal, booking a hair salon is often done manually, which is time-consuming and inefficient. Many salons also lack digital tools to manage their business. Jolofera was created to simplify this process by offering a modern and accessible platform.
What it does
Jolofera allows users to discover salons, compare services, book appointments online, and pay via mobile money (Wave, Orange Money). For professionals, it provides tools to manage bookings, automate scheduling, and analyze their performance.
How we built it
We built Jolofera using React, Vite, and Tailwind CSS for the frontend, with backend integration using Node.js. We implemented Google OAuth for authentication, integrated mobile payments, and deployed the platform using Vercel with a custom domain.
Challenges we ran into
We faced challenges integrating mobile payment systems and managing real-time booking availability. We also worked on creating a user-friendly experience for both clients and salon owners.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We successfully built and deployed a full-stack platform with real-world features like payments, authentication, and booking management. We are proud of delivering a working product with real impact in Senegal.
What we learned
We learned how to build and deploy a complete product, integrate payment systems, and improve user experience while solving a real-world problem.
What's next for Jolofera
Next, we plan to add AI-based recommendations, improve analytics, expand to more cities, and develop a mobile app.
