Inspiration

We entered the Hackathon very motivated because the event is something new for us. When we knew the challenges we started thinking about our Hack. The thing is that, because we are only at our 2nd year of our engineering degree, our coding and developing knowledge is somehow limited. But, nevertheless, we managed to create a simple game in c++ to help people while playing it.

What it does

The game gives you a short and entertaining experience. Yo will play some simple and fun games that will bring you a fun time. Meanwhile, during the games, you will recieve some positive messages to cheer you up.

How we built it

We created the full project in c++. We used a website that allowed us to edit a .cc file all together at the same time [codecollab] and each one of us used a text editor, to compile and test litle parts of the game.

Challenges we ran into

Because the game displays in a programmer's console we had some initial limitations, because, after all, all the game is played in an ascii/text format.

One of them was the thing that, at the beginning, we did not know how to change the color of the printed text. We thought that, if you were going to play in a console, we had to try our best to give an exotiful project. After a little research we discovered how to change the color of the printed characters ginving some colour and amplifying the gaming expereince.

We also found out that it would be interesting to have some static images during the game. For example, when you are facing an opponent, you have to always see him (his ascii image) during the encounter while the text bellow related to the story/gameplay may be changing. Again, after a little research we found a way to clear the console. By doing this we could clear it all and, just after that, print the opponent again and print new text phrases.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Us, as a group, did not think that we could be able to code so much toghether in just a few hours. Before this we used to code some little programs of 100 or 150 lines; this one, on the other hand, has more that 1800.

What we learned

This event has been really useful for all of us. We have gained a lot of ascii handling, important teamwork coding notions and to have fun all together while making an idea reality.

What's next for Fantasy (T'estimo m'estimo)

We hope that it can help people to have fun and to feel good with themselves while playing it. It is a small project but if it can be useful for a person that is feeling a little down it is more than enough for us.
