Inspiration

The four of us each had our own ideas for implementable games based on our favorite titles and ideas, so we decided we'd just do four small games! Focusing on several "minigames" ensures that the scope of each of our programs is feasible for ~36 hours, our amount of content is adequate, and all of our ideas get implemented.

What it does

Joe Miner moves around a map in 4 separate games that get increasingly difficult as he matriculates through college. Each game is a different experience from the last, but they follow simple retro platformer concepts of object collision, points and time based objectives, and good pixel art above all.

How we built it

We used the python module pygame to make all of our minigames.

Challenges we ran into

Divvying up several minigames across several people as well as coordinating them into one folder took strong teamwork.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Making a variety of unique games, creating high-quality pixel art, and making custom controllers for novel gameplay.

What we learned

As this is the first time any of our team, composed of 3 freshmen and 1 sophomore, have completed a hackathon, we learned much about team communication, what a hackathon has to offer, and how to create a complete project (using Python, Git, Github, etc) in general.

What's next for Joe Miner's Major Journey

We suppose he could pursue his master's in materials science if he digs deeper.
