Inspiration

I wanted to build something that solves a real problem for contractors and small field-service businesses. Taking pictures on a job is easy, but having the right proof when you actually need it is different. Photos get mixed together, important shots get missed, and it can be difficult to show exactly what condition something was in before work started, what happened during the job, and what was completed.

Jobument came from the idea that job documentation should be organized from the beginning instead of trying to piece everything together later.

What it does

Jobument gives contractors a structured way to document a job from start to finish. Instead of ending up with a camera roll full of random pictures, the app organizes evidence around the actual customer and job and guides the contractor through the documentation process.

Contractors can document conditions before work begins, capture before, progress, issue, and after evidence, add notes and annotations, record customer acknowledgement, check documentation completeness, and create professional job reports.

The goal is simple: Document the job. Prove the work.

How we built it

I built Jobument as an Android-first Flutter application using a local-first architecture. Before development started, I created a complete blueprint and build roadmap so the app could be built in controlled phases instead of adding features as I went.

Each major part of the workflow was built and tested as part of the complete job documentation process. The focus throughout development was keeping the app practical for someone working in the field while still creating a strong and organized record of the job.

RevenueCat is integrated to manage Jobument Pro, including monthly and lifetime purchase options. The completed Android app has been released on Google Play.

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges was finding the right balance between thorough documentation and speed. A contractor should not have to spend more time documenting the work than doing it. At the same time, making the process too simple can leave important gaps in the evidence.

A lot of the work went into designing the workflow so Jobument can guide someone toward capturing the right information without getting in their way on a real job site.

Another challenge was making the different parts of the app work together as one workflow rather than as separate features. Evidence capture, job progress, customer acknowledgement, reports, storage, and completed-job records all needed to remain connected to the same job.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The biggest accomplishment was turning the original idea into a complete working product instead of just another photo organization app.

Jobument now has a defined workflow for documenting work from beginning to end, structured evidence stages, job records, customer management, documentation checks, customer acknowledgement, reporting, and local-first storage.

I also took Jobument through development, testing, production preparation, RevenueCat integration, and release on Google Play as a complete Android application.

What we learned

One thing that became clear during development is that good job documentation is about more than taking more pictures. The evidence needs context, structure, and a clear connection to the job.

I also learned that every feature has to earn its place in the workflow. If something adds complexity without making the final job record more useful, it does not belong in the app.

Building Jobument also reinforced how important it is to test the complete workflow instead of looking at individual features in isolation. A feature can work correctly on its own and still need changes once it becomes part of the full process.

What's next for Jobument

Jobument is now available on Google Play, so the next stage is improving the product based on real-world use and contractor feedback.

I plan to continue refining the workflow, improving performance and usability, and evaluating additional features based on what contractors actually need in the field.

The goal is to keep Jobument focused on what it was built for: giving contractors a practical way to document the job and prove the work.
