JobPlex - Perplexity for Jobs

Inspiration

As job seekers with experience in the hiring landscape, we have often struggled to find accurate, up-to-date insights about companies. We saw a clear gap in the use of large language models (LLMs) for job seekers, especially when it comes to researching companies efficiently and confidently.

What It Does

JobPlex is an all-in-one research assistant for job seekers.
With just a company name and a job title, it provides:

  • A summarized company overview
  • Latest news and events
  • Insightful trends and analysis

It helps users decide not only who the company is, but whether now is the right time to join.

How We Built It

  • Frontend: Streamlit
  • AI Backend: Perplexity API (sonar-pro)
  • Additional Tools: Custom web scraper to supplement information gaps

Challenges We Ran Into

  • Low profile companies limit the quality of LLM-based responses
  • Slow API response time affected the testing iterations

Accomplishments We're Proud Of

  • Successfully integrated Perplexity’s real-time LLM with citation support
  • Built a fast and intuitive tool that automates what usually takes hours
  • Brought a research-grade API into a real-world use case for job seekers

What We Learned

  • How to translate API capabilities into user-centric features
  • Practical limitations when LLMs depend on sparse web data

What's Next for JobPlex

  • Company-to-company comparison
  • PDF report generation for easy sharing
  • Visual dashboards for insights
  • Bias detection and sentiment scoring
