Inspiration
Job hunting is exhausting. We saw friends spending hours tweaking resumes for each application, often missing keywords that get them past automated screening. We wanted to make resume optimization as simple as using spell-check.
What it does
Jobly analyzes your resume against a job posting and shows you exactly what to change. Upload your resume, paste the job link, and get instant AI-powered suggestions highlighted right on your resume—just like Grammarly but for job applications.
How we built it
- Frontend: React + Vite
- Backend: Supabase
- AI: Google Gemini API to analyze and generate suggestions
- UI: Grammarly-style sidebar with one-click accept/dismiss
Challenges we ran into
- Making the highlighting work smoothly while keeping resume formatting
- Getting the AI to give consistent, useful suggestions
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Built a polished, working product that actually solves a real problem. The UI feels professional and the AI suggestions are genuinely helpful.
What we learned
- How to parse PDFs in the browser
- Working with AI APIs and prompt engineering
- Creating smooth, interactive UIs with animations
What's next for Jobly
- Download optimized resumes
- Save multiple resume versions
- Cover letter generation
- Chrome extension for quick optimization
