Simplify Your Job Search

Inspiration

As college students, the focus on getting an internship and then a full time job by graduation is one of the most important aspirations students have. With this being so impactful to not only our careers, but also to who we are and our experiences, it is so important for this process to be as stress-free as possible. Although this is not entirely possible, JobFarm can definitely help make it less overwhelming. Instead of messy spreadsheets or just a crowded inbox, this application will help you keep track of everything you are working hard to earn and make sure that nothing is lost or forgotten. It’s your one stop shop for everything job related.

What it does

JobFarm is an application helps you keep track off all the jobs you are applying to and organizes where you are in the hiring process. The main board where users can add each position that plan to or have applied to and move the cards to reflect where they are in that company’s hiring process. The page is customizable with the ability to add more columns and create new boards.
The Statistics page outlines the metrics of the user. It outlines the number of positions that are at each stage of the process and how many positions were moved through the process each month.
Our next feature is our Contact information pages. With this feature, users can add and save any number of contacts that they gather from recruiters or other people in the industry to their account. This makes it localized to one place where it isn’t lost in the mix of personal contacts.
Finally, the Documents page allows the user to upload any documents important to their application season to the website in order to have it organized and maintained in one place. Documents can include resumes, cover letters, offer letters, or anything else the user desires which can all be organized into folders, as well.

How we built it

Designing and prototyping our application was completed using Figma.

Challenges we ran into

The primary challenges we faced throughout the duration of this hackathon were with ragard to UI/UX designs. We wanted to focus on keeping things simple for users while also providing a pleasing interface to navigate. With our analytical and problem solving mindset, we really had to take a step back and focus on aspects that sometimes can be overlooked. A large amount of time was placed into a color palette and there were multiple versions of page designs created as we 'trial and errored' our way through seeing if what we had worked well overall.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud that we have created an interactive user flow and working through the hackathon overall.

What we learned

We learned a lot of about wireframing, prototyping, and UI/UX design. Small aspects that could be overlooked were what we had to focus on. Color palettes, logos, layouts, and so much more!

What's next for JobFarm

Past the design, we do have a plan on how this project can be fully implemented in the future. The tech stack would be React with HTML and CSS styling for the frontend and Firebase cloud storage to store the data for each user in the backend. Also, by using a cloud feature, the user can access their information from different locations.
