Inspiration
As university undergraduates, we constantly hear feedback from our peers about how the job application process can be overwhelming at times due to the uncertainty about what job they would like to apply for and the large number of jobs in the market. Thus, we feel that the process could be made simpler for students and we decided to create a website called JobCupid.
What it does
Our website first requires users to fill up a questionnaire and based on their inputs, our searching algorithm will go through job listings on job websites and filter the jobs that suit the applicant. After receiving the list of jobs, the applicant can conveniently swipe next if they are not interested or apply for the job.
How we built it
Python with Flask Framework, Styling done with HTML and CSS, Collaboration done using Live Share Visual Studio Code
Challenges we ran into
Due to the limited time that we had, we could not implement some features that we initially wanted, such as login portals for both employers and students.
What we learned
We learnt that time management is key in hackathons and that we should focus on our selling points and develop from there
What's next for JobCupid
-Login Portals for both students and employers -'Favourites' and 'View Past History' feature -Employers to have the ability to select potential candidates based on tags -AI techniques to generate questions for users
