Inspiration
As developers, we understand the challenges that come with losing a job, especially in the fast-paced and ever-changing tech industry. That's why we've created a platform that caters to the unique needs of tech workers. Our job portal is easy to use, with a user-friendly interface that allows job seekers to browse job listings, submit applications, and track their progress. Our portal is designed to match job seekers with the right opportunities, based on their skills, experience, and preferences.
We believe that everyone deserves a chance to find meaningful employment, and that's why we've created a job portal specifically tailored to the needs of tech workers who have been laid off. Our mission is to help job seekers find new opportunities, and to connect them with employers who value their skills and experience. If you're a tech worker who has been laid off, we invite you to join our community and take the first step towards a new and exciting career.
What it does
Jobboard like any other job seeking platform provides job listings to users and opportunities to connect to possible employers. However it is specially curated towards individuals in the tech industry and more specifically towards those impacted by company lay offs. Jobboard aims to facilitate cooperation between companies and employees--where companies can allocate badges to outstanding employees who were laid off so that their good standing can be acknowledged by other job recruiters. Currently, Users can register an account and promptly search and save jobs they are interested in.
How we built it
We built our application with the MERN stack, Grapql, Material UI, and Axios.
Challenges we ran into
Original collaboration plans fell through as the competition began however we were able to adapt this with a smaller scope of implementation of our idea. We also frequently ran into issues with our server with temperamental performance which required frequent restarts and debugging. Additional problems were encountered with our Github and resolving merge conflicts and the carry over of dependencies.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of our ability to navigate unforeseen challenges and find innovative solutions to deliver functional applications. Moreover, our proficiency in effective communication and adept troubleshooting skills came to the fore when addressing bugs and technical issues.
What we learned
We learned how to better resolve dependency conflicts accross branches and how to bypass bugs in favour of pushing forward development of the app as a whole rather than a limited working part.
What's next for Jobboard
Jobboard will feature more functionality for company recruiters, featuring a working badge system and a method of forwarding promising employees to companies.
