I was inspired by the millions of people who have valuable skills but lack access to opportunities that can lift them out of poverty. Aligning with the UN’s SDG 1 (No Poverty) and SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), I created Job Skill Matcher to use technology as a bridge between individuals and free or affordable training programs that help build sustainable livelihoods.
Job Skill Matcher allows users to find training programs, workshops, and entry-level job opportunities based on their location and skill interests. With just a few clicks, users can explore nearby or online opportunities that match their goals, helping them take concrete steps toward stable employment.
I built the site using React for the frontend and a PostgreSQL database to store opportunity listings. The app filters results based on user input and displays them in a clean, responsive interface, hosted on Bolt Database's cloud infrastructure for accessibility and performance.
My biggest challenges were designing a simple yet meaningful user experience and ensuring the filtering logic worked correctly. I also had to curate realistic opportunity data that demonstrated the project’s purpose within a limited timeframe.
I'm proud of building a fully functional MVP that’s both intuitive and impactful. The project clearly shows how technology can connect people to real opportunities and make a social difference.
Throughout the process, I learned how to turn a large idea into a focused, achievable project, organize data efficiently, and balance functionality with design. I also discovered how AI tools can accelerate development and problem-solving during a hackathon.
Next, I plan to expand the platform with a real database, multilingual support, and NGO partnerships to feature verified training and job listings. I aim to make it accessible globally, even in low-connectivity regions, empowering more people to learn, grow, and build better futures.
