Job Skill Extractor

Inspiration

We wanted to create a chrome extension that helps people with their job searches.

What it does

It scrapes the job description and runs it through an API which extracts the relevant keywords.

How we built it

We built it using javascript, chrome's extension platform, and emsi API.

Challenges we ran into

Learning how to use chrome's extension platform as it doesn't support locally imported modules.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud that we pushed ourselves to learn some javascript and try out chrome extensions!

What we learned

A ton of javascript, bundling, chrome extensions.

What's next for Job Skill Extractor

Our goal is to make it so the user can upload their own resume and have it compared to the job posting they are looking at. It would then give a score of how well they match up based on keywords, and recommend similar job postings/job data.

This was my first JavaScript-based web app and chrome extension. Through our obstacles, I learned so much about JS, yarn, and Webpack.

I tried to implement features to the best of my ability, and assisted my teammates. In the process I learnt a lot about JS and Chrome.
