Inspiration

As a part of the job hunt, we faced a lot of logistical issues tracking applications and applying to places that ask redundant information again and again. There are close to 5 million developers alone in the US and assuming that a quarter of those developers are searching for jobs they might also face this plight. In the near future, it is expected that this number might shoot up to 20 million. [https://www.daxx.com/blog/development-trends/number-software-developers-world] We are catering this product to those developers.

What it does

It provides a one-stop-shop to track for all* your job applications across several portals. You provide information of these portals and the application gets the information pertaining to applications on these job portals and provides you a simple dashboard with all the information that you need.

How I built it

We created the UI in react, backend using python-flask, and SQLite databases using sqlalchemy, UIpath from automating the information retrieval from application portals. We used heroku to deploy the application. We used git for version control and collaborating.

Challenges I ran into

We did not know what technologies would be best suited for this application. Therefore, we vetted several options before going ahead with the current tech stack. As a result of this, there were several challenges that we ran into. To begin with, we were not experienced in using most of the components from the stack. We did not know how to integrate these components. More specifically, it took us some time to figure out the following:

  1. Connecting the UIPaths component with the rest of the applications.
  2. Integrating Heroku with backend.
  3. Seamless communication between components in react.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

Below are the accomplishments that we are proud of:

  1. We were able to learn various new technologies in a short span of time.
  2. The entire team collaborated and coordinated with each other with a single point of focus to accomplish the tasks.
  3. The product would ease the efforts of millions of software professionals in finding their next job.

What I learned

This hackathon has been an amazing learning experience in technical and non-technical aspects. The following are the things that we learned.

  1. We learned to collaborate as a team with individuals of different skillset and varying ideologies.
  2. To make the best use of the limited time to accomplish the core features to serve the product's purpose.
  3. To learn, implement, and integrate several new technologies mentioned in the tech stack.

What's next for Job Search Made Easy

We would like to extend the features implemented in this product in the following ways:

  1. To smartly fill the common fields in the job application based on the gathered user information specific to the portal.
  2. To provide push notifications to the user on updates to the applications.
  3. To personalize the user experience using periodic analytics on the application.
