Inspiration
Many people who have been incarcerated end back in jail due to it being extremely hard for them to get a job. We wanted to create a dataset that showed where people can find jobs and opportunities.
What it does
The idea was to get a whole bunch of jobs that are open to those who have criminal backgrounds. Unfortunately we didn't have enough time to implement it fully.
How we built it
We used python, beautiful soup and pandas to scrape the html tables and web.
Challenges we ran into
Trying to read in the information from tables but most websites have tables but inside the cells are scripts that generate the information pulled from their database. We also tried to get tabula to work with requests, and it was having trouble finding the java runtime even though the javaruntime was linked in the file path.
