Inspiration

Have been using Jira Software services since 5 years. So fascinated to use Jira features and to observe the improvements done by them for the product. The inspiration comes form the Jira itself. Thought of doing something new which is useful for others. Even I used Jira APIs too to create and update the videos. Also as Software engineer, I feel there is something to show the progress of features collectively at a single place. Instead of using number of mails, one board can be useful to depict the feature status.

What it does

This Feature plan whitboard is a template. Every sprint has some features in SDLC. If we plan a single piece of feature effectively, we can achieve the cycle goals very fast.

It gives the clear picture of feature development process. What is achieved and what is yet to achieve. All the Stake holders of a feature use this board to update their work related to the feature. Anyone from outside like management can get to know what's cooking there for this feature.

In my template I included and felt the below stake holders for a feature are necessary. 1.Product Manager These people are the ones who starts the feature by creating a userstory and a whiteboard associated with it. Using import issues features he can map the user story to the board. A separate card can be maintained for this team to write notes about their activities.

2.UI A person from UI designers team is mapped with userstory and a card specific to their comments will be added to know the progress.

3.Development Developers use different sub tasks and task to split the userstory into smaller pieces, they can map the tasks created and the progress can be tracked by using them. All the development related activities can be note there from gathering requirements to code review process.

4.Testing Critical part of SDLC, once the tester form QA team is assigned, they can be mapped to the user story and in the bard there is a section for QA related activities. They can incorporate all the details of testing activities being done for the features. The related bugs can be mapped to the features. In the tester cards, they can also include the dev build statuses.

How I built it

I first learned how this whiteboards for Jira works and then I build it using different useful components of the board. Created different cards for different teams. Have imported all the Jira items like story, issues and task and mapped them with respective team cards. Added a count down timer to indicate the deadline of the project.

Challenges I ran into

Nothing much challenges faced. As the understanding the features of whiteboard is like a cakewalk for me because of its easy to use UI and UX.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

Found a great tool and implanted what I want to .

What I learned

Learned how to deal with whiteboards.

What's next for Jira Chalkboard Template

Few more components will be added and the same board can be cloned for other features in the sprint
