Inspiration
About 85% of the world's population struggles with low self-esteem — sabotaging their thoughts, relationships, and feelings, holding them back from what they can truly achieve.
Unsurprisingly, our team has been a part of this statistic, where we have faced challenges in self-doubt, lack of confidence, insecurities, etc. However, research has shown that living a healthy lifestyle and exercising can indirectly and directly improve self-confidence, which is where our slogan "Be Bold" stems from.
In an effort to help improve our self-esteem, we became inspired to touch upon the large, potential market that faced a similar issue. As a result, we formulated an app to help relieve people's insecurities by continuously providing them with motivation, support, and a proper exercise regime.
What it does
Our app provides support, motivation, and ways to live a healthier lifestyle to our users to help them gain confidence.
How we built it
We built our app via the free Apple development environment called xcode. Within xcode we chose to use the language Swift in order to create our app. In addition, we used resources like google when we needed and also looked at online documentation as well in order to help fulfill our goal.
Challenges we ran into
Our team faced challenges in communication, different time zones, time limit, and debugging, causing our app to be static. As a result, we decided to draw an outline of our app to use for our demo video and be able to share our idea with the judges.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Some accomplishments we are proud of is that we put in a lot of work into our project,—especially with the planning and designing aspect—and because of that we aren't dissatisfied with our result.
What we learned
We gained a lot of insight into developing apps via xcode with the language swift. Furthermore, we learned to work effectively with a team and work under a deadline. Although we weren’t very successful in our implementation, because of what we learned from this hackathon we will continue to work on this project.
What's next for JIMBRO "app"
Aside from finishing and touching up our app’s features, we have planned the following for the future of our app’s development:
- Online running competition using our step counter (gain sponsorships and give out awards)
- We have already formed a partnership with the number one under 18. powerlifting champion in California to help promote the app and create example exercise videos.
- Partner with gyms around the world → promotes both business and makes exercise activities more accessible/easier with our app
- Connect to other gym workout apps like Strava activities, Nike Run Club, etc.
