Inspiration

This is the tool that I wish I had when I was learning English at high school in Vietnam.

What it does

This is a tool that I wish I had when I was in high school. It helps adult English learners (who usually a bit lazy in general as there is no impetus or motivation to start learning, procrastination, etc.) to feel engaged, encouraged and progressive in their learning journey by accumulating just 5 words a day, day after day. The words are displaying in a related manners with AI generated images for illustration as long as it's not abstract, the synonyms, antonyms and the related words (adjective, adverb, noun, verb). Learners can leverage the Jiffie - a learning buddy to assist them to read out loud a word, a sample sentence or even generate and read out loud a whole story containing the words they're learning. Thus the learners will be benefiting the listening and reading skills while maintaining the entertainment of the story, make learning a breeze and attractive. Jiffie can also talk to the learners to explain anything related to English learning skills such as pronunciation, grammar or put a word into a sample sentence to illustrate how to use the new word. There are 2 modes for "5 words of the day" and "Dictionary" where learners can look up the word. A lot of activities such as Kahoot-like game so that they can compete with other leaners and be awarded extra points if they win. They can level up (with test) and down to adjust their appropriate English competency level.

What we learned

New features from platforms such as new releases from Elevenlabs could be hard to resist and new idea keep coming up which sometimes can derail the current work.

What's next for Jiffy

  • Replace a reliable dictionary API for Jiffy to make quicker and smoother user experiences
  • Generate the gif image for the words for better and more engaging illustration
  • Use the newly released Elevenlabs voice API to make it read the story it generated with beautiful voices, intonation and more lively
  • Expand it to cover more languages
  • QR code to gifts for encouragement awards
  • Release a mobile version
