About the Project

Please see the document titled: “Script to follow when viewing the demo”, which serves as a useful reference to learning about the roles that use the portal and the functions available to those roles.

Inspiration

We have our own camera-trap, which we use to capture and upload photos of various animals in the yard at our residential property.

What the Portal Does

Using role-based authorization, the JGI Camera Trap Portal serves as a unified web application for JGI staff to manage all aspects of Camera Trap administration.

Use the Portal!

In addition to watching the demo, we recommend you use the portal itself. Use the Logon IDs discussed in the Appendix of the document titled "Script to follow when viewing the demo, 12Aug2022, FINAL", and follow the script (in the same document), which will allow you to best understand how the portal works.

How We Built The Portal

We decomposed the problem into specific features and functions; executed various Proof-of-Concept (POC), and Proof-of-Technology (POT) to validate design ideas; and integrated individual pieces to form a holistic end-to-end web application.

Responsive Web Design

The portal will dynamically and automatically adapt to the screen size of the user's device. This is important and necessary because JGI staff members work in the field.

Challenges We Faced

A lack of knowledge of the various API ecosystems involved.

Accomplishments

The creation of a user-friendly and intuitive website that will allow authorized members of the JGI organization to administer their cameras and the photos taken by those cameras, as well as make interesting photos available to the public, which should aid in promoting the Jane Goodall Institute in a positive light.

What we learned

A deep understanding of geographic API products, as well as DocSign capabilities and specifics.

What's next for JGI Camera Trap Portal

Currently it supports the addition of new assets (cameras). The next iteration will allow for the management and modification of those assets.
