Inspiration
Inspired by some of my favorite endless runners when I was a teen. Jetpack Joyride and Flappy Bird. There is something about a sticky simple game that requires constant focus that I really enjoy.
What it does
Its a simple one tap mechanic endless runner. It might be simple but it requires constant precision and timing, keeping it engaging and difficult. The loop really hooks you into wanting to beat your high score just like the games it was inspired by.
How we built it
We built it using blender, the desktop and vr editor. With a combination of typescript and codeblocks.
Challenges we ran into
We did not have many challenges with this. Our biggest challenge was finding the time around maintaining our other games to give it that extra polish.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are very proud to get a game out with all the other work we have going on. Also for making such a bite size experience with a lot of personality.
What we learned
We learned that you really need a lot of time for that end polish to make something feel professionally developed.
What's next for Jetpack Jumpers
More UI! Exciting animated UI for end game and high scores. A store with new jetpacks/effects. VR friendly. Rewards in other worlds of ours for accomplishing goals within Jetpack Jumpers. Open it up to 3 players and offer more social leaderboards.
