Inspiration

I was inspired by Gilfoyle's chatbot on Silicon Valley.

What it does

JessBot is a chatbot that emulates the SMS language, or text speak, that I normally use. JessBot has its very own phone number, which is perfect for fooling unknowing strangers into thinking that they’re texting me when in actuality they’re texting JessBot. However, I’ve also developed a simple webpage for my friends and family to visit to find JessBot’s number.

How I built it

I created my very own AI-powered chatbot using Twilio Autopilot, an AI platform that builds, trains, and deploys artificially intelligent chatbots. I made the webpage using HTML/CSS.

Challenges I ran into

I faced a lot of challenges in the process of creating JessBot because I had never used Twilio before.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I made a functioning chatbot! I love the fact that it communicates via SMS, it makes the bot seem much more real.

What I learned

I learned how to use Twilio and the basics of APIs while working on this project.

What's next for JessBot

In the future, I have plans to connect JessBot to other channels like web chat, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, and Slack just like Gilfoyle’s chatbot. I also hope to work with voice-based channels like Alexa and Google Assistant so that I can learn more about natural language processing.
