Inspiration

Contributions and fund-raising are commonly accepted as charitable endeavors for a range of reasons, such as community development, healthcare, education, and post-war rehabilitation. The question of whether the money was truly utilized for the intended purpose is frequently raised, though. Does there exist trustworthy audits that attest to the authenticity and correctness of the money tracking ledger? Is there a way that blockchain technology can help with this problem?

What it does

Envision a charity where contributions pour in, but donors have no idea how their money is being used. The proceeds raised are still under the fundraiser's control, and they decide how to be distributed. Realizing whether the contribution you provide actually helps people in need becomes essential for sustaining your charitable spirit. However, the limited financial statements provided by charities are actually the sole source of credibility for confirming the amount spent, and there is no guarantee for their accuracy.

We created a solution using the concept of blockchain so that we can carefully keep track of donations records. At Charity Clarity, all transactions happen through the unique cryptocurrency of the Solana blockchain. Users can directly make donations through the website which adds to the charity's Phantom Wallet. The Solana blockchains have immutable ledgers that track each and every transaction through decentralized nodes and blockchain technology, allowing no chance for altering accounts or siphoning of funds. Transparently displaying all transactions on the website guarantees accountability and transparency in donation procedures.

How we built it

Our project leverages the transparency and immutability of the Solana blockchain to track donation transactions effectively. Here's a breakdown of how we built our donation system. We started by developing a user-friendly website interface to facilitate donations. The frontend was built using modern web development technologies such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. We focused on creating a seamless user experience that guides donors through the contribution process. To enable cryptocurrency donations, we integrated the Phantom Wallet extension into our website. This integration allows users to securely make donations using Solana cryptocurrency directly from their digital wallets. We utilized Solana's blockchain technology to track donation transactions in real-time. By accessing the Solana blockchain logs, we were able to retrieve and display donation records transparently on our website. This approach ensures the integrity and accuracy of donation tracking without the need for smart contracts. Upon successful donation transactions, we implemented a logging mechanism to record relevant details such as donor information, donation amount, and timestamp. These transaction logs are then displayed on the website, providing donors with full visibility into how their contributions are being utilized. Throughout the development process, we conducted rigorous testing to ensure the functionality and security of our donation system. We iteratively refined the user interface, backend processes, and blockchain integration to optimize performance and usability. By combining frontend development, integration with Phantom Wallet, and seamless integration with the Solana blockchain, we created a robust donation platform that promotes transparency and accountability in charitable giving.

Challenges we ran into

Our primary challenge was integrating cryptocurrency wallets into our donation system while ensuring security and functionality. Additionally, developing a solution to track Solana blockchain logs effectively without utilizing smart contracts presented technical hurdles that required innovative approaches to overcome.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We take pride in developing a working prototype of our donation system that harnesses the transparency and immutability of the Solana blockchain without relying on smart contracts. Successfully integrating Solana blockchain logs tracking into our platform signifies a significant achievement in providing a transparent and accountable donation platform.

What we learned

Throughout the project, we gained valuable insights into blockchain technology, particularly in utilizing Solana blockchain logs for transparent donation tracking. We deepened our understanding of cryptocurrency wallets, blockchain integration, and frontend development, laying a solid foundation for future projects in the blockchain space.

What's next

In the future, we aim to enhance our donation platform by expanding its features and functionalities. This may include incorporating additional cryptocurrencies, implementing advanced analytics for donation tracking, and further optimizing user experience. Additionally, we plan to explore partnerships with charitable organizations to pilot our platform and validate its effectiveness in promoting transparency and accountability in charitable giving.
