Inspiration
My parents would take me to a lot of museum growing up. I always wanted to own artworks from my favorite artists but they were too expensive or the art dealer made me hate the art work because he made me feel uneducated and uncultured. I want to create a platform for anyone to enjoy all values art has to offer, whether its financial or social/emotional value.
What it does
You can buy shares in artworks you love, and join a community of owners to get access to artist events and talks.
How we built it
First we created a python script to webscrape data on artworks sold in the last 3years. We trained an ML model to find the artworks which would bring the highest return on investment. We used FireBase and 0Auth to Authenticate Users. We built the App using Xcode; we followed a similar framework to instagram and Robinhood but specifically for art. So it would have all the features you would traditionally find in an investing and social media platform.
Challenges we ran into
Creating the messaging feature that was encrypted and users cannot screenshot was very difficult to execute, as well as the overall social media features, we were not able to complete the user database to our liking because of how complex it was.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
we used Azure for the first time, to train ML models, to find the artworks from our dataset. Social media Platform is basically done. Learned a lot about blockchain technologies although we didn't use any in this project, but hopefully will in the future.
What we learned
- How to use Azure to train and test ML Models
- Webscraping efficiently with Selenium
- How Complicated it is to build a messaging/Social Media platform
- Learned a lot from developing backend
- Loved learning how to use blockchain technology, but we failed doing it. ## What's next for Monet Keep on building it, talking to potential customers to improve on what we have built so far.
