Inspiration

Indonesia is a land of extraordinary cultural diversity over 700 languages, hundreds of ethnic groups, and thousands of unique traditions. Yet, most cultural tourism today only scratches the surface. Tourists flock to Bali, but miss the rich heritage hiding behind temples, rituals, and everyday life. Even locals sometimes forget the depth of their own cultural roots. We were inspired to bridge this gap not just to guide tourists, but to honor and amplify local stories across the archipelago.

What it does

JejakLoka is a cultural tourism app that helps travelers discover hidden stories, destinations, and local experiences across Indonesia. From sacred temples in Bali to food rituals in Toraja JejakLoka provides: Location based discovery of heritage sites, events, and food A feature called Jelita for daily cultural itinerary suggestions Map integration for real time navigation to nearby cultural gems Whether you’re a curious traveler, student, or cultural enthusiast, JejakLoka brings culture to your fingertips.

How we built it

Design: Figma for UI/UX with a clean, intuitive aesthetic All screens from onboarding to cultural details were crafted to be accessible for all ages, following modern mobile usability standards.

Challenges we ran into

Cultural data fragmentation it’s hard to find consistent information about local heritage outside mainstream tourism.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Creating an engaging prototype that showcases real Indonesian culture, not just tourist clichés. Designing a smooth user experience for multi age and multi purpose users

What we learned

That technology can preserve and promote culture if designed with empathy and care.

What's next for JejakLoka

Event integration: Add live cultural events and community festivals in the app. Local language support: Expand beyond Bahasa Indonesia to support regional dialects. Gamification: Badges, challenges, or cultural “quests” to encourage deeper exploration.
