Inspiration
In September 2026 a clip of Jean Phil, an AI-generated French character with a blond helmet bob and curled mustache, took over short-form video. The pink-suit selfie scene was copied thousands of times, yet every copy needed manual editing. We asked whether the whole thing could become a template where you only supply a photo.
What it does
The Jean Phil template takes one photo of a person, a pet or an invented character and places it into the pink-suit scene with the same movement and the original sound. The result is a short vertical video ready for TikTok, Reels or Shorts. The template is one of 19 scenes in the tool, and the same engine also supports uploading a clip of up to 30 seconds or writing a prompt for a brand-new scene.
How we built it
The pipeline has three parts. First, a face and pose check rejects blurry or heavily cropped photos so users get a useful error rather than a bad render. Second, a video generation model applies the photo to the scene while keeping the motion from the reference clip. Third, a post-process step restores audio, trims the clip and encodes it for mobile playback. Uploads are removed within 30 days.
Challenges we ran into
Keeping identity consistent across frames was the hardest part, especially with glasses, hats and side angles. Lip sync for the optional dialogue line was the second challenge. We solved much of it by guiding users toward front-facing, evenly lit photos.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
A first-time user can go from photo to finished video in a few minutes, and the experience works on a phone.
What we learned
Templates beat blank prompts. Most people prefer choosing a scene that already works over describing one from nothing.
What's next for Jean Phil Template
More scenes, faster renders and better handling of group photos.
