Inspiration

I just wanted to challenge me, to make something like a fully functional pablo's web OS, and i did something like that but not... like...that....

What it does

Actually JDex, allows a lot of things it has a System structure begin with a lot of unix commands to make it work like a real OS, in JDex you can upload files, do multitasking, edit file, make custom apps based on a Javascript based framework that i call the JDXK, that allows you to execute a lot unix commands from Javascript synchronously. Make any browser enabled device to have a fully desktop experience without a lot of resources.

How I built it

I used PHP for the direct interaction with the Server OS, and Javascript for all the front end combining the backend properties of PHP with the versatility of Javascript to make it scalable.

Challenges I ran into

Make it customizable was really hard, i wanted the people to have apps that can really extend the OS functionality, making app file associations, and allow developers to make anything that they wanted, integrate some web limitations to a PHP Core that allows Javascript to get a proxy to the system directly keeping al the web skills. Make some PHP Generated Javascript code, to make javascript implement native methods by http calls.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I actually implement a lot of things, like a JSON Based console, with a lot of unix commands directly from javascript to interact with the system, my own package installer, proxy system, responsive, available for almost all browser enabled platforms, and easy to understand.

What I learned

I've learned a lot about how a operating system works, the memory, the interaction, the structure, everything and make me capable of a lot of things.

What's next for JDex

Deliver the JDXK (JDex Kit) to allow people to develop JDesk modules that can be useful to the community, using cool tecnologies as javascript and more...
