Inspiration
We realized that in elementary and middle school, a lot of students learn how to code in Scratch, but they don't go any further with their coding knowledge. For this reason, we created this website in order to promote further coding in kids. Coding is the future.
What it does
Our project is an informational site that teaches kids the basics of Java by matching it to blocks in Scratch.
How we built it
We used Visual Studio Code to create webpages using HTML and styling in CSS. We then uploaded it to GitHub.
Challenges we ran into
We spent a lot of time figuring out how to make good CSS and creating a visually appealing project. This is because we decided to build our entire site from nothing and we had to code the entire site; HTML and CSS! We also had to figure out how to embed images and make sure our site worked at all.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're very proud that we were able to make a complete finished product that has potential in the future should we decide to expand.
What we learned
We learned A LOT of coding in HTML and CSS. We also learned a lot about Visual Studio Code LiveShare and Github, as we used these softwares to bring our project to the screen.
What's next for Java from Scratch
We plan to add more information to the site, as well as practice problems in order for the user to reinforce knowledge with real coding.
The two links provided in the "Try it out" links are for the project itself and a video recording of the code.
