Inspiration
With more and information that can be accessed everyday, it became a bit of an issue to quickly access many different types of information all in one place. This lead to an idea of having all the information we could want whenever we open a new tab in our browser, so we got to work building this app.
What it does
JASUP collects information from various locations around the internet on things such as weather, covid cases, time, news, crypto prices, and jokes. The information gathered is packaged into an informative widget that can be set by the user to what is displayed and where. It also saves the widget choices so when you revisit the page the same widgets reappear.
How we built it
We used HTML, CSS, and Javascript to create our web application. These work in harmony to create and display the webpage. Various APIs were used to gather information. Cookies were used to have persistent data between visits.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest hurdle was figuring out how to use cookies. Most of our group was unfamiliar with using HTML and Javascript, so that caused some confusion when trying to get everything to work together smoothly.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Remembering what widgets were selected, pulling data from multiple places, and all the dad jokes.
What we learned
How to use cookies, call APIs, navigate JSON objects, and how to work as a team.
What's next for JASUP - Just Another Start Up Page
Adding more widgets, adding more customization issues, and fixing up various bugs and issues.
