Inspiration
The idea came from the desire to create a relaxing and educational game — something that teaches players about plants in a fun and engaging way. We wanted to combine well-being, learning, and simple progression mechanics, all wrapped in the comforting experience of caring for a garden. We were also inspired by how interacting with nature can reduce stress and improve mental health.
What it does
Jardim Feliz is a game where players take care of various plants, each with its own unique needs and characteristics. As players water, prune, and interact with their plants, they unlock interesting facts and real-life gardening tips. The game also features a ranking system that rewards the best plant caretakers and allows garden upgrades with new items, pots, and rare species.
How we built it
We developed the game using [insert game engine or tool, like Unity, Godot, Reddy, etc.]. The visuals were designed to be light and colorful, using a low-poly or pixel art style. We used a real plant knowledge base and built a progression system that combines gamification with education in a smooth and intuitive way.
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges was balancing gameplay with educational content to ensure learning felt natural and not like a school lesson. We also had to fine-tune the plant growth logic and scoring system to make it rewarding without becoming repetitive.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud to have created a peaceful and positive environment where players can learn while they play. The feedback from early testers has been amazing, especially regarding the balance between fun and knowledge. Seeing players grow attached to their virtual plants was especially rewarding!
What we learned
We learned a lot about how to gamify learning without making it boring. We also gained experience in designing a user experience focused on relaxation, and how to build a progression system that feels engaging without pressure. Plus, we picked up plenty of real-world plant knowledge ourselves!
What's next for Jardim Feliz
Our next steps include adding seasonal events, new plant species, deeper garden customization, and possibly even a multiplayer mode where players can visit each other’s gardens. We're also exploring a “real-life plant” mode, where the app helps players take care of actual plants at home.
