Inspiration
Japan.exe was inspired by the surreal overlap of technology and spirituality in modern Japan — neon lights, urban legends, and digital ghosts. We wanted to capture that eerie harmony between the real and the virtual.
What it does
Players can explore different sides of Japan: a neon-lit city like Shibuya, a traditional market, a peaceful blossom garden, and an ancient temple — each blending the digital and the spiritual in unique ways.
How we built it
We used real-life references and drew inspiration from anime and other media. The process started with blockouts, then we gradually populated the world using Gen AI–generated models where possible, and imported custom models for elements that couldn’t be generated.
Challenges we ran into
Optimization and maintaining a consistent art direction across diverse environments were our biggest hurdles.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We built a world that feels alive, strange, and beautiful — a mix of old soul and broken code.
What we learned
Balancing performance and atmosphere taught us to simplify without losing identity.
What's next for Japan.exe (Anime Social RP)
Improving performance, adding more player interactions, expanding the store with new items, and growing the world with larger, more detailed environments.
