Janus: god of beginnings, gates, transitions, time, duality, doorways, passages, and endings

Teammates (official): Eric Severson Sebastian Goslin Jill Cagliostro Stephanie Copley Maulik Limbachiya

Concept: Use scraped data from the leading sex-trafficking adjacent websites (SkipTheGames, BedPage etc.), pull out the relevant information and categorize data based on risk to prioritize which listings stand out most as potential sex trafficking.

Tools: Python

Goals: 1) Maintain and improve a primary data model accessible via private public partnership to harness contributions from trusted sources to keep the model current, while keeping key triggers hidden from traffickers and solicitors.

2) Use the model in a novel way - a widely used application that has proved to scale (i.e. Recorded Future), and its enrichment capabilities, to inform law enforcement and other willing participants of data relevant to their needs/capabilities.

Derived our solution through the availability of data on the web, combined with the Recorded Future-methodology of scoring text strings based on the what is contained within them.

Demo: GUI → Scraped Data → Data into Maltego for additional analysis

Further data model improvements:

Emoji recognition Additional source addition Further risk rules OCR image recognition Enrichment Potential Phone number to Name Phone number to Venmo Account Poster’s aliases on varying sites in relation to phone number Venmo Other posting sites Reverse domain analysis on sites linked within ad
