Inspiration

Millions of rural Indians still depend on word‑of‑mouth for basic financial and government information. A simple phone call can be the difference between getting a loan or being misled. We want to build a voice companion that feels local, trustworthy, and instantly helpful - something a villager can use without apps, literacy, or data.

What it will do

Janmitra will act as a friendly, always‑available voice agent that answers people in their own dialect, helps them navigate government schemes, compares loan options, explains forms, and connects them to the right officials when needed. All through a normal phone call, no smartphones or internet required.

How we’re planning to build it

We’re designing a real‑time voice pipeline that uses fast Indic STT, a domain‑specialized LLM tuned on verified government information, and natural‑sounding TTS voices for each region. Calls will run on a low‑latency edge cluster so replies feel instant. Janmitra will also integrate with public directories and verified APIs for accurate answers.

What we’re excited to accomplish

We aim to build something that removes confusion, saves hours of travel, and makes people feel empowered. If a farmer can understand a loan clearly, or a parent can check a pension status without visiting an office, that’s the kind of impact we want Janmitra to create at scale.

What we’re learning as we shape the system

We’re discovering how important dialect nuance, trust, and clarity are in rural contexts. We’re also learning how to simplify complex government information into voice‑friendly, human explanations.
