Inspiration
As I began my journey in Syracuse, I realized that it was an opportunity to start afresh and explore new horizons. However, as with any new experience, it can feel daunting to be in an unfamiliar place without the comfort of familiar faces. Though my closest friends were hundreds of miles away, I found solace in a fellow transfer student who shared my sense of loneliness.
During those moments of introspection, I became fascinated by the potential of chatbots, especially those like ChatGpt and BetterHelp. The concept of a virtual companion who could engage in conversation, offer advice, and provide entertainment seemed like a great way to keep one's spirits up. It was in this mindset that I came up with the idea to create a chatbot - a constant companion that would always be there to listen and provide some much-needed company, no matter the time or place.
What it does
It is a chat bot that one can talk to. The key questions it can answer are:
- What is the time
- what is the weather
- how are you today?
- I am having a bad day
- I want to play a game
- tell me a joke
- and more
How we built it
This was built through the text editor VS Code utilizing HTML and Javascript
Challenges we ran into
A lot of the challenges were timing wise. I had a plan coming into the hackathon of what I might have wanted to create but halfway through the event, I realized that I was not going to be able to bring my vision alight, especially not all by myself.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
One of the cooler features that I was proud of in my project was the "I want to play a game" function which allows the user to be direct to a page where they can play a version of Wordle that I had created.
What we learned
A lot of HTML & JavaScript! I left this hackathon knowing the languages a lot better than I had coming in.
What's next for JaneBot
Hopefully to expand its question base :)
