Jana Flow
Don't just track your bus. Let your journey adapt.
1. Inspiration
After a long and hectic day at work, one of the first things we think about is getting home.
We usually check the bus timings, try to leave at the right moment, and plan our journey around the next available bus. But public transportation doesn't always go according to plan. A bus might be delayed, traffic might slow it down, or we might reach the stop just a little too late.
And sometimes, while we are waiting for one bus, another bus or route could actually get us home faster — but we simply don't know about it.
That made us think:
What if our bus app could understand that we just want to get home as quickly and smoothly as possible, and automatically help us adapt when something changes?
Instead of simply showing bus timings, we wanted to build something that understands the entire journey.
That idea became Jana Flow — a smart travel companion that monitors your journey, detects disruptions, looks for better alternatives, and helps you make the best decision when your original plan no longer works.
Because after a tiring day, the last thing we want is to spend another 20 minutes figuring out how to get home.
2. The Problem
Public bus applications are good at answering one question:
"When will my bus arrive?"
But that isn't always the question a passenger actually cares about.
When someone is trying to get home, several things can change after they have already planned their journey:
- 🚌 Their bus may be delayed by traffic.
- 👥 A bus may arrive but be too crowded to board comfortably.
- ⏱️ They may miss their planned bus.
- 🔀 Another route may become faster because of changing conditions.
- 🔎 Multiple alternatives may exist, but passengers have no easy way to compare them.
- 🧠 The passenger has to manually re-plan their journey when something goes wrong.
This creates a gap between:
Knowing what is happening with your bus
and
Knowing what you should do next.
Most existing transit experiences treat a journey as a static search:
Search → Select Bus → Wait → Arrive
But real-world public transportation is dynamic.
We believe passengers need an experience that continuously asks:
"Given what is happening right now, what is the best way for this person to reach their destination?"
3. Our Solution — Jana Flow
Jana Flow is an AI-powered intelligent travel companion designed to help public-transit passengers adapt to changing journeys in real time.
Instead of simply displaying bus timings, Jana Flow continuously evaluates the passenger's journey and helps answer:
"What should I do now?"
The journey follows a simple loop:
PLAN → MONITOR → DETECT → RECOMMEND → ADAPT → TRACK
4. How Jana Flow Works
① PLAN
The passenger starts by selecting their destination and preferred journey.
Jana Flow understands the passenger's intended trip rather than treating every bus search as an isolated event.
② MONITOR
Once the journey begins, Jana Flow continuously monitors the trip.
It can consider signals such as:
- Bus location
- Estimated arrival time
- Route information
- Historical crowd patterns
- Time and day
- Traffic conditions
- Weather
- Events
- Current journey progress
③ DETECT
When something changes, Jana Flow identifies that the original journey may no longer be the best option.
For example:
500D arriving in 4 minutes.
But current conditions indicate that the bus is likely to be overcrowded.
Instead of simply telling the passenger that something changed, Jana Flow moves to the next step.
④ RECOMMEND
Jana Flow searches for better alternatives.
It can compare different options based on factors such as:
- Estimated travel time
- Waiting time
- Crowd conditions
- Route changes
- Current disruptions
- Overall journey convenience
The system can then present the passenger with a clear recommendation.
For example:
Original Route
500D
Faster arrival
⚠️ High crowd probability
Alternative
Another available route
Slightly longer
✅ Better boarding probability
⑤ ADAPT
The passenger remains in control.
Jana Flow doesn't automatically force a route change.
Instead, it explains the situation and lets the passenger decide whether to switch.
"I found a better option for your journey. Would you like to switch?"
The passenger can then confirm the change.
⑥ TRACK
Once the passenger switches, Jana Flow continues tracking the new journey.
The journey doesn't end when the recommendation is made.
The system continues to adapt as conditions change.
5. What Makes Jana Flow Different?
Jana Flow is built around a simple shift in perspective:
From:
"Which bus should I take?"
To:
"What is the best journey for me right now?"
Traditional transit applications primarily provide information and leave the passenger to interpret it.
Jana Flow aims to provide context and assistance.
It doesn't simply say:
"Your bus is delayed."
It asks:
"Your bus is delayed. Here are the better options available to you."
It doesn't simply show:
"Bus arriving in 4 minutes."
It considers whether that bus is likely to provide a practical journey.
And importantly, the passenger stays in control.
Jana Flow recommends and explains.
The passenger makes the final decision.
