Inspiration

-Cookie clicker was an inspiration for the style of the game -Jam’s amazing flavor was inspiration for the theme -The inspiration for the idea was to make a fun, accessible and educational lower level math game

What it does

-It is a cookie-clicker-like (an idle game) where the goal is to earn as much money from selling jam as possible. In order to upgrade the current jam you have or to buy new jam types, you must complete increasingly difficult math problems spanning different topics - addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, powers and roots. If you are struggling on a problem there are video resources provided by us to help you learn that type of problem.

How we built it

-We used vs code as our IDE. -We used many classes to store different game types(buttons, conveyer belts, new windows)

Challenges we ran into

-Neither of us knew how to use pygame, learning on a time crunch was a big issue -Creating a pop up for our math problems was a big issue. We had issues with it staying up; and when we got it stable we had issues with displaying anything on it. After lots of trial, error and youtube tutorials we got everything working

Accomplishments that we're proud of

-Built a game in a language we were not familiar in -Pushed ourselves with artwork - all art was hand created by us

What we learned

-We both learned how to use pygame -We learned what classes are and how to implement them to make more efficient code

What's next for Jammin' Math

-Our goal is to add more jam types; these types would correlate to algebra functions, trigonometry problems, and basic calculus

  • We would also improve the look of the game by adding more art in places like the and adding more animation
  • Balance the game better
