Classroom engagement for the modern age!

!! NOTE !! JamJar is LIVE: Use it HERE

Have you ever been in class where the material is flying over your head? ✈ Have you ever wanted an example of a tricky concept? 🤔 How can you provide feedback without confrontation - and without interrupting the class's flow?

Introducing JamJar!

Like everything in the world education was heavily impacted by COVID-19. In distance learning classes many teachers and students had to adapt to a new style of teaching and learning. It revealed a need for interaction and feedback that could function outside the constraints of a physical classroom. To address this need we developed JamJar.

With JamJar, students can join a class session using a unique class id, and provide feedback/ comments in live time. Teachers will see this feedback as soon as it appears, allowing them to change up their style, pause for questions, offer a break, etc.

Written in JS, with Jquery/ AJAX for dynamic updating and socket.io for cross-page communication

Biggest Challenges:

  • Relatively inexperienced team - 2/3 members' first hackathon!
  • Dynamic page updating proved difficult; optimizing network performance
  • Running entire backend without a database! Low overhead
