Inspiration

The JAMII Initiative was inspired by the need to empower university community members with a centralized, accessible platform for reporting issues, accessing information, and requesting services. It aims to address critical areas such as security concerns, health and wellness, and education by leveraging USSD technology.

What it does

The JAMII Initiative provides a USSD-based service that: -Allows users to report security incidents, facility issues, or campus infrastructure problems. -Offers access to directories, schedules, and educational materials. -Enables users to request essential services like medical assistance, counseling, or maintenance. -Supports multilingual options to cater to diverse users.

How we built it

-Designed an intuitive USSD interface with clear, hierarchical navigation. -Incorporated API integrations to provide access to real-time updates and resources. -Tested functionality across multiple networks (Safaricom, Airtel, Orange) using a sample USSD code.

Challenges we ran into

-Ensuring compatibility with feature phones for seamless interaction. -Simplifying the USSD menu structure to make it intuitive for all users. -Incorporating multilingual support without compromising user experience.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

-Developing a centralized platform that simplifies community communication and service access. -Creating an easy-to-navigate USSD interface that caters to diverse user needs. -Successfully testing the service's functionality across multiple networks.

What we learned

-The importance of user-friendly design in fostering engagement and usability. -How API integrations can significantly expand the scope and capabilities of a service. -The value of iterative testing and feedback in improving functionality.
