Inspiration
Parents and asthmatic commuters do not need another map. They need to know if this jam is worth sitting in — for their lungs and for wasted fuel. Congestion is an air problem and a climate problem you can act on today.
What it does
JamBreath turns live traffic into an Earth Forward impact readout:
- Pulls TomTom routing + flow-segment speeds
- Measures delay vs free-flow
- Estimates idle CO₂ from delay (transparent ESTIMATE, 20 g/min mid factor)
- Samples corridor AQI (Open-Meteo)
- Suggests a healthier move (alternate route or leave later) and logs avoided impact
How we built it
TypeScript + Vite front end. TomTom Search/Routing/Traffic when a key is present; realistic fixture mode for judges without credentials. Open-Meteo for AQI. GitHub Pages for a one-click demo.
Challenges
Keeping claims honest (idle CO₂ labeled ESTIMATE, not a full LCA), and making the live-traffic path work with a clean fixture fallback so cold judges still get a full demo in under a minute.
What's next
Richer corridor sampling, optional domain-whitelisted live key for the public demo, and a short pitch video of the judge path.
