Inspiration

Even though the pandemic was a long time ago, we are still affected by it. To this day, we struggle hanging out with friends, so we decided to make hanging out with friends simpler. With our cozy-themed application, you can chat and video call your friends. Jamboree is a web-based application in which we have integrated a chat engine and calling.

What it does

Jamboree is a web application where you can chat and call your friends. Our communication platform is an end-to-end secure application, meaning that your privacy is our #1 concern. With Jamboree, you can easily talk to your friends with ease. You don’t have to worry about getting hacked, or getting your credentials stolen. Everything is secure with Jamboree’s special chat engine and video calling system.

How we built it

We built Jamboree using a framework called NextJS, paired with Chakra UI. We used an API, chat-engine, to build our chat interface. We save the messages in a safe and secure database so that the user has maximum privacy.

Challenges we ran into

During our development of Jamboree, we faced countless challenges. When we were trying to import our custom font, we had trouble using the .otf file with Next.Js. Additionally, when we were trying to integrate our chatting feature, we had a tough time-saving message to the chat engine database. We overcame this challenge through teamwork and resilience.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of discovering new technologies through this process of making Jamboree. Discovering new javascript concepts that we never knew of before.

What we learned

We learned how to use NextJS as this was our first time using this web framework. We also used a CSS/UI library called Chakra UI. We also learned how to integrate chat engine API into our web application in javascript. We also learned how to use Javascript objects in a dynamic website setting.

What's next for Jamboree

In the future of Jamboree, we plan to add additional themes. Including camp-fire themes, more customization to the user interface, and facial recognition to log in to our web application.
