Inspiration
In Jamaica, there's always been a big issue of supply chain management, especially when it comes to food. It feels like every other month, there's news about either a massive shortage or surplus (see the February/March Tomato Crisis). Due to this, we wanted to make an app that encourages users and retailers to make the best use of the food that they can.
What it does
Our product is a mobile app that gives its users access to the best data you can get on the Jamaican Agricultural Market, from weekly prices to future speculations made with Machine Learning. To make it even more fun, we provide users with fun recipes to make from their groceries.
How we built it
Backend: Azure, C#, ASP.NET Frontend: Flutter
Challenges we ran into
Frontend is very hard. We're good at making systems, but we had no idea on how to make it look as good as we imagined.
We also found it hard to find and prepare all the relevant information, but we're thankful that one of our team members had previous experience in the Agri-Tech sector
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud that we came out and did our best. It was a new experience for all of us- spending a full 24 hours working together at one goal, and we're glad that we made it out on the other side as better developers and better people.
What we learned
What's next for Jam Produce
Unsure. If we can, we'd like to sell this infrastructure or partner with another organization to deliver an even better service.
