The food industry is built on relationships. Every successful product on a supermarket shelf begins with a producer finding the right buyer, or a buyer discovering the right supplier. Yet for many small and medium-sized businesses, this process is still slow, fragmented, and heavily dependent on personal connections.
Businesses often spend weeks searching through social media, messaging groups, trade exhibitions, and personal referrals just to find a potential partner. Even after making contact, there is little assurance that both parties are a good fit, resulting in lengthy negotiations and missed opportunities.
We believed the real challenge wasn't buying or selling food—it was finding the right business partner.
That idea became the foundation of JALIN.
JALIN is an AI-powered business networking platform that helps food producers and buyers discover compatible partners before entering a business relationship.
Instead of functioning as another marketplace, JALIN focuses on answering three important questions:
- Who is the right partner for my business?
- Can we work well together?
- How can we reach an agreement more efficiently?
The platform allows businesses to showcase what they produce or what they need, while AI analyzes compatibility based on business characteristics rather than popularity or advertising budgets.
When two businesses express mutual interest, they can negotiate within the platform and transform their discussion into a structured agreement, creating a smoother and more transparent collaboration process.
Many digital commerce platforms focus on transactions. We wanted to focus on relationships.
A successful business partnership depends on compatibility, trust, and communication—not simply matching supply with demand.
By helping businesses discover partners that align with their capabilities and needs, JALIN reduces the time spent searching, lowers the risk of unsuitable partnerships, and encourages stronger collaboration across the food ecosystem.
For small producers especially, this creates opportunities that would otherwise depend on having the "right connections."
One of the biggest challenges was redefining the problem. Our initial idea resembled a conventional marketplace. However, after exploring how businesses actually build partnerships, we realized that transactions are only the final step of a much larger journey.
The harder problem is discovering trustworthy partners and determining whether a collaboration is worth pursuing in the first place.
Another challenge was designing a platform that encourages trust without sacrificing privacy. Businesses need enough information to evaluate one another, but they may not want to immediately disclose sensitive contact details. This led us to design a workflow where meaningful conversations happen first, while direct contact is shared only after both parties reach an agreement.
We also wanted AI to act as an assistant—not a decision maker. Rather than replacing human judgment, the goal is to help users discover opportunities they might otherwise overlook.
Building JALIN taught us that technology alone does not solve business problems—understanding how people build trust does.
We learned that successful digital platforms are not simply places where transactions happen. They are environments where relationships are formed.
This project also reinforced the importance of designing AI that supports human decision-making. The best recommendations are not those that make choices for users, but those that provide meaningful insights while allowing businesses to make informed decisions themselves.
We see JALIN as more than a networking platform.
Our vision is to become the intelligent collaboration layer for the food ecosystem—where producers and buyers can discover opportunities, build trusted partnerships, and grow together.
As the platform evolves, AI can help businesses identify emerging market opportunities, recommend strategic partnerships, summarize negotiations, and provide insights that strengthen long-term collaboration.
Ultimately, our goal is simple: Help great food businesses find each other—so they can spend less time searching and more time growing together.
