Inspiration

A trip to Varanasi and looking at the pathetic condition of the rivers sparked the idea to come up with a solution that would deal with floating garbage

What it does

A mobile waste collection system created with the purpose of collecting floating garbage found in rivers. This waste collection system works on the principle of water currents and implements the Bernoulli’s principle. With a trap net anchored to both banks of the river, it collects all the garbage and forwards it to an inclined conveyor belt. The conveyor belt functions as the water current make the wheels rotate. For backup power of the water wheels a solar panel is connected to a D.C. motor which supplements the rotation of the water wheels. This strategy has been applied as there might be situations when the water current is weak. Finally, all the garbage is collected in a trash storage which can be emptied by means of crane.

How we built it

A mini prototype was made after successful simulation results and safety checks

Challenges we ran into

There were a lot of showstoppers in the project, but the solution of using Renewable sources of energy acted like a trump card

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We have won hardware hackathon hosted by our college.

What we learned

You don't really need to be from a Mechanical background to create hardware projects. Greater concerns about the future can act as the fuel to new inventions

What's next for Jal Kabadiwalah

Proper platform to get a launch for our eco-friendly project can work wonders
