Inspiration

We wanted to take up the StateFarm challenge, which was given at HackUTA, so we investigated what other services that StateFarm offered, and we were pretty interested in their Identity Restoration Insurance program. We thought that we could expand upon this service that StateFarm offered, and create an organization or company that spread awareness and educated people about issues in the cybersecurity world, and how to identify, avoid, and protect yourself from cyber attacks. Regarding our name and logo, we wanted to have a unique spin on StateFarm's name and mascot/spokesperson, so we chose to use Jake, StateFarm's spokesperson and "acres", a term that we thought was close to a "farm" and concocted the name of "JakesAcres"!

What it does

Our goal at JakesAcres is to spread awareness about different types of cyber attacks that people might experience, as well as inform them of what they can do if they do get cyber attacked.

How we built it

We used Velo, by Wix, in order to structure and design our website. Also, we developed a chatbot using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, as well as the Velo Developer Tools in order to integrate our chatbot in our website.

Challenges we ran into

Different Skill Sets : We all specialize in different fields of computer science and we all come from unique backgrounds, differing levels of experience, and limited knowledge in computer science since we are all still in highschool.

Endless Errors : With nominal experience with JavaScript and HTML, it was a bit of a challenge setting up our chatbot, although managing the WIX website with Velo came with its own issues as well.

Main Idea: Keeping our audience in mind, we struggled on choosing a meaningful insurance to represent and showcase. In addition. In addition, we had to consider how to display the information without being repetitive and dull.

Learning Curve : With many roadblocks and points of discouragement, we found ways to push throughout the night by taking a few breaks, to consulting teammates on what to do.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're pretty proud to be able to code and integrate the chatbot into our website, because none of us were very skilled at HTML, CSS, or JavaScript. Also, we are pretty proud to have been able to format our website like we wanted, because Velo was very difficult to work with, and we had to scrap our website and start all over at one point, too.

What we learned

We learned how to work with the Velo tools, as well as learned how to use HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to code our chatbot

What's next for JakesAcres

Improve JakeBot: We’d like to use some kind of machine learning algorithm in order to have a much stronger chat bot to interact with.

Additional Content: Although this current site is a good MVP, it could be much more concise with much more information.

Integrate more with StateFarm: As of right now we’re just a branch company with various articles about safety and policy, so in the future, we would like to become more integrated with State Farm.

Broaden our audience: We truly want to educate everyone about cybersecurity. Even though some people already have some knowledge about current cybersecurity threats, our rapidly-developing world always has new advances in technology, which means more opportunities for technology to be attacked. Being able to teach people about how to identify security threats and how to best protect oneself from them allows for us to be better prepared against cyber attacks!
