Inspiration
Auto and home insurance are essential policies for one to look into. However, people tend to get turned away from researching the ideal policy for them because of excessively verbose documentation or a general apathy.
What it does
The website tries to make the policy research process more interactive by incorporating visual aids of the beloved State Farm mascot Jake to influence users to pick the right insurance policy for themselves and to advise them of special State Farm offers.
How we built it
We built the website with HTML, CSS, and Javascript. We used the React framework to tie everything together.
Challenges we ran into
Everyone in our team is a novice when it comes to web development, therefore we faced challenges in figuring out what exactly we had to do in specific situations such as hiding portions of the website's DOM.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
For a web app made in less than 24 hours by people who had never made something like this before, we actually accomplished a lot more than we had initially planned and we are proud of our general progress of what we learned in the journey.
What we learned
We learned the basics of programming with React, as well as essential web development skills.
What's next for JakeFarm
A more involved website with detailed policy suggestions that can be presented to users as the result of a quiz. We wish to involve more visual and even audio aids in the process. We aim to improve the styling of the website by using the Bootstrap framework.
