Hi! we are Jail2Job a platform that helps individuals find job opportunities and career paths by providing guidance on what skills to target in order to become a more attractive applicant. Our main goal is to make the process of rehabilitation into the workforce less overwhelming and more structured. The inspiration of this website is the stories of many individuals who struggle with the stigma of their previous crimes in the workforce. They lack access to opportunities, guidance, and support and ideally our website will provide this. Our website was built using HTML,CSS, and JavaScript on the front end. For the backend, we integrated Gemini API to provide personalized recommendations and guidance. It takes user personalized information to Gemini API to provide suggestions. Our biggest challenge was with figuring out how to use the API while keeping the API key secure. This accompanied with the shorter time frame and learning curve made it difficult to implement as efficiently as possible. With more time and practice, we anticipate this being a non-issue. We learnt a lot of new skills specifically with working with API's, deploying projects, and understanding local development and making it accessible.
