Inspiration

Asian culture has made an international wave of influence on makeup, fashion, and beauty more than ever before. With these new Asian influences, come distinct styles, techniques, palettes, and confidence.

What it does

Jaed beauty aims to provide users with a vast collection of the latest Asian trends, clothing, items, and more while allowing users to freely express their opinions and build up their peers online in an effort to bring out every user's beauty from within.

Key Features: Interactive Gallery, Interactive Blog, User Creation, Separate Makeup/Hair/Fashion Pages, Shop, Channels, Chat, Groups, Spotify Miniplayer.

How I built it

Using Velo from Wix along with the Wix interface, I constructed a website that is animated, user-friendly, aesthetic, and interactive. With aid from Wix's "Collections" dynamic pages, I was able to link databases together and show changes on the site from collections of new data. I was also able to add animations and other accessibility features such as adding embeds for different websites like youtube and spotify using iframes and APIs.

Challenges I ran into

I am not very familiar with Velo or Wix so I was using them both for the first time. Furthermore, I did not have a very strong foundation in Javascript or databases prior to this project, but with the aid of Velo and Wix I was able to link desired content and databases together, as well as accomplish some other Javascript functions, which took a majority of my time. Also, I didn't have much prior experience with iFrames or APIs, but I was able to use them with the help of Wix.

Attempted Integrations: Top Rated Shop Items Database - Semi-complete; converted to stationary list on shop page. Save Searches - Incomplete; is not on site. API Youtube Embeds - Semi-complete; changed into iFrame embeds with one video instead of playlist. New Posts on Blog Database - Completed; On the Blog page. Javascript Image Carousel - Semi-Complete; Needed aid of Wix Developer Tools. Javascript Button Interactions (Movement) on Channels - Semi-Complete; Was able to change stylistic features but not positions/movement (as intended).

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I'm proud that I was able to learn more about Javascript and databases as well as work closely with Velo and Wix. I was able to learn about a lot of different components that are involved in web design like embeds and animations and APIs. I'm also proud of myself for working alone and being able to produce a fairly complete project on such a tight schedule as I am not generally strong working independently.

What we learned

I was able to learn more about Javascript, specifically Javascript animations. I was able to learn about developer tools like HTML iframes, embeds, and APIs. I was also able to learn more about databases and use them on my website with the help of Wix tools.

What's next for Jaed Beauty: Beauty from Within

In the future, I would like to do more with HTML and CSS in Velo and Wix rather than use more Wix integration. Initially, I started out programming all the individual elements in Velo, but knowing they would take quite a long time to style considering the number of elements and pages I wanted to create, I used Wix tools to help me bypass some of the styling processes so I could dedicate more of my time to Javascript and Databases.
