Inspiration
We were inspired by this year's theme of fantasy and fairy tales, as well as the games Henry stickman and the Stanley Parable.
What it does
Players guide Jack through his journey by coming up with creative solutions to obstacles. Instead of choosing from preset options, they can type their own ideas, which the AI narrator interprets and responds to with unexpected twists.
How we built it
We built the game using Unity and C#, integrating Google's Gemini AI to power our narrator and generate unique responses to player inputs.
Challenges we ran into
Our biggest challenge was getting Gemini to act like the mischievous narrator we envisioned. It often tried to help the player instead of working against them, so we had to experiment with our prompts to make its responses more unpredictable and challenging.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of bringing our creative idea to life and making AI an important part of the gameplay rather than just a dialogue tool.
What we learned
We learned a lot about prompt engineering, integrating AI into games, and how difficult it can be to get an AI model to consistently behave the way we want.
What's next for Jack and the Beanstalk
We'd love to expand the game with more levels, creative challenges, and even more unpredictable narrator interactions. We also hope to explore other fairy tales in the future!
