Inspiration

As we looked for a project for us to submit we saw the PIMCO challenge and we all came to the realization that when we were younger we never really had a strong understanding of financial literacy so we thought it was a good idea to create an app to teach financial literacy to kids.

What it does

This build is currently android only but as we get into the app you are presented with the home page which we call our dashboard and you are able to continue where you left off on other lessons or start a new lesson and finally we have a a few games that are available to play.

How we built it

As a group we split the work up and each of us worked diligently to create the app, we used Koltin and android studio to build and run the app. We each worked on both some front-end with the UI of the app and we also all worked on some back-end with creating different pages, buttons ,transitions, etc.

Challenges we ran into

When we first started this project we faced many, many problems, wether it was computer issues, not completely being comfortable with the language, and obviously the 24 hour time limit. But as we moved on with the app we were able to collaborate and work more smoothly.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I think what we are most proud of has to be the fact that we were able to complete the app in 24 hour time limit. We are also proud that for some members in the group it was their first time using both Kotlin and Android studio and for all of us it was our very first hackathon so we didn’t really know what we were getting ourselves into.

What we learned

Throughout the process of creating our app we learned many new things including a new language or how to use a new IDE but I think the biggest thing we learned is how to collaborate well among one another especially in such a stressful environment/event.

What's next for JAAM

Our next step would be to build on what we learned here today and apply it to other projects and updating the app we created today. We all wish to join more hackathons in the future and continue to collaborate together on different projects.
