What Inspired Us

As a recently unemployed fresh graduate, I quickly realized that blindly applying to jobs is only half the battle. The real challenge—and the most important step—is filtering through listings to find suitable roles first. For me, a "suitable" job is largely dictated by practical realities: the physical distance, the daily commuting time, and how well my actual skills match the employer's requirements. I wanted to build a tool that solves this exact bottleneck, helping job seekers prioritize roles that make sense for their daily lives and career profiles.

How We Built It

This project was brought to life by a team of two: a Year 2 university friend and a fresh graduate. Armed with nothing but our laptops, we powered the development of this extension using Codex. This grassroots build was completely made possible thanks to the free credits generously provided by the wonderful developer community.

The Challenges We Faced

We went into this project completely blind in two major areas: we had a significant lack of knowledge regarding free AI resources, and neither of us knew anything about Chrome plugin development. Building a Manifest V3 extension from scratch seemed daunting at first. However, we were able to solve all of these technical hurdles and bridge our knowledge gaps entirely thanks to Codex.

What We Learned

This project was a massive learning experience. Throughout the development cycle, we:

Discovered and integrated API endpoints: Learning how to connect our local extension to external services.
Mastered resourcefulness: Figuring out how to efficiently utilize free tools and community resources to build a production-ready tool.
Demystified extension development: We realized that building Chrome plugins is actually much easier and more accessible than we had originally imagined!
