Inspiration

Modern-day tourism planning apps but with an increased focus on promoting and arranging ethical tourism. Inspired visually by recent design trends like minimalism and existing travel platforms like booking.com.

What it does

Iter is a travel application that encourages users to make more ethical and sustainable travel plans. It promotes environmentally and economically sustainable travel and accommodation plans to users. It helps users become immersed in local cultures by participating in cultural activities, as well as supporting local restaurants.

How we built it

We started with preliminary research to understand what the scope of the problem statement was. Once we were able to put our findings in terms of a problem statement, we moved on to defining and prioritizing features. Then, each of us took a few features to conceptualise with low-fidelity wireframes, coming together later to discuss a mutual design vision. We did this with reference photos and generated a custom color palette. Then, we each converted our chosen screens into polished, high-fidelity mockups with interaction flows to result in the final prototype. As we were trying to consolidate multiple design ideas and visions, we made sure to conduct routine consistency checks such that the solution looked cohesive in the end.

Challenges we ran into

While we planned to do so, we couldn’t validate our starting concepts. We had to rapidly transition from low-fidelity to high, spending minimal time on visual design choices. It would’ve been ideal to get some initial testers in to ensure that our features had been well-prioritized.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We were able to get a good quantity of user research done in a short timeframe, getting almost 20 responses in a few hours and conducting a usability test in that time as well. As a group of 4, we were able to define and iterate through the design of 25 mobile screens in less than 48 hours!

What we learned

We learned to begin ideating as soon as possible after completing the user research to generate new features and receive feedback from each other.

What's next for iter

This version is the iter MVP. Using feedback from our usability tests, we hope to make improvements to the user flow and user interface design. Soon, we hope to add on more secondary and tertiary features, such as a collaboration feature, allowing users to decide on travel plans on the app together.
