Inspiration
The innovation of the rotating VR chair (RotoVR) was an inspiring piece of technology that helped us come up with the idea for our game.
What it does
The player is able to rotate using the RotoVR chair - this will allow them to shoot at incoming enemies that are approaching at all angles, with the motion of the chair providing a more immersive experience. The player continues to fire at enemies until one of them attacks the player, ending the game.
How we built it
We built our game using Unity with VR development tools. The headset we used was the meta quest 2.
Challenges we ran into
So to start off, we had a significant issue of trying to connect the meta quest 2 headset to a laptop. This almost discouraged us from choosing to make a VR game, but fortunately we found a way (thanks to YouTube!) Having finally connected the headset to the laptop, we ran into problems with the audio, playtesting and other features that are mostly simple to implement in a standard video game. This was an eye-opening realisation into the complexity of actually developing a VR game.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Really proud that we learnt a completely new concept, having never developed a VR game before. For a 24 hour project we think we were able to complete substantial given how many challenges we faced.
What we learned
List of skills we learnt:
- VR development
- Never giving up!
