Wanting to support women in gaining independence and aid them in learning tasks that, due to cultural norms and gender bias, they are typically are not taught. For example, one of our team members blew up their car engine due to overheating for lack of coolant. Had they known how to check for this in advance, it could have saved the car (may he rest in peace).
What it does
Provides different AR simulated scenarios for women in tasks traditionally only taught to men. In these scenarios and tasks, iSupport guides women and teaches them how to navigate through skills such as how to check tire pressure and oil levels, and helps them be better prepared for when these situations arise in real life.
How we built it
echoAR for the AR scenarios, and Tensorflow for the Image Recognition of car parts for the tire pressure and oil level scenarios.
Challenges we ran into
We had difficulties starting and setting up echoAR at first which took us well into the night. We were all sleep-deprived and unable to think clearly which made things more challenging, but we were able to work together and resolve these issues before the submission deadline in order to deliver a complete prototype.
Accomplishments that we're proud of:
We had never worked or interacted with augmented reality before so we were very happy when we were able to successfully work with and around the many unknown variables that we inevitably encountered within a limited time frame.
What's next for iSupport
We would like to expand this to tasks that may be more relevant or practical for women.
